I think they would oppose american style government because the american government believes that church and state should be seperated
I think modern muslims would be opposed because of the amount of freedom Americans have.

Also, most of the laws we have to follow in the U.S. have nothing to do with laws of the various religions that are practiced around the country.
They don't think everybody is equal (not that people are actually equal in democracies), but that goes against the "principles" of democracy.

I think that they were opposed to american style democracy because It doesn't separate the religious matters from criminal or civil matters. What do you guys think?
they may believe that there should be one ruler and the people should not decide things hense the word democracy when people decide and vote
I think that they would oppose an American-style democracy because the american democracy separates the peoples religion from other parts of life. In America, the government doesnn't really get involved with peoples religious beliefs, except for that they say we have the freedom to practice whatever religion we choose.

In my opinion the muslim people were opposed to the american style government because Americans have more control over the laws and rulings we must obey.Whereas, in the muslim government they have already preset laws they must obey.

Modern muslims that believe in Shia's law are opposed to American-style democracy.
I think this is beacuse the Shia' represents the right way people should be governed and the way they should behave from god. And that's the way those Muslims live...by following Gods commandments.
But in the American-style democrarcy, the people choose what they want the rules to be. They're not listening to God's commandements but making up their own rules!

A Shari's is a way of life that will control your daily actions. the whole point of a democracy is to be free in your decisions is it not?

They believed that people should have their own say in who is in charge and how they live their life as long as it conforms to the Qu'ran. They do not think that what the majority of peolpe think should dictate your life and how or when you practice your religon.

Modern Muslims are opposed to American-style democracy because how our country's run isn't based on religion; it's based off of common behavior and rules. In Islamic countries however, they believe that religion and what we call the "non-religious" part of life should just be a single group. There shouldn't be any seperation to the two.

American-style government keeps civil and criminal matters seperate from religous matters. The shari'a law says that we have to bring both religon and criminal matters together. Therefore the two ideas contradict each other and so modern Muslims oppose American-style democratic government.
I don't think that religious and personal life is kept seperate. Look at how publicly we celebrate religious holidays and look at the money the we use.
I'm totally in agreement with what david had said.....the whole "In God We Trust" comment. That's right, so i suppose that even if the government says stuff about how we don't base our government off of religion, technically, it's an incoorect statement. This topic could go on forever........

Modern Muslims believe that God makes up the lawsin the world and that they should follow God's laws. They also believe if they neclect their God, they will be punished. In American Democracy, the government creates the laws and the people follow them. Also,Muslims believe that their religious life and their privatew life will be always together..... i think

The sharia preaches that religion should affect all decisions that are made regarding the well-being of the people. The American government has no religion as stated in the First Amendment.

Because shari'a law is almost the opposite of church and state beingseparated, they want the church to govern.
they are opposed because modern american style democracy because they think that religion should be tied very closely to the governemnt while in an american style democracy it should be completely seperate. They believe government decisions should be made along with the religion being followed and what is correct within the religion. if there were many different religions in one area like in america then this could not happen.

i agree with kelsey c's statement which is supported by my previous comment regarding the separation of church and government.
It seems that most people got the basic point that American-style democracy calls for a separation of church and state which would not fit with Shari'a law which combines civil with religious matters. While most Americans consider the Ten Commandments to be a basic approximation of our moral code, only three of the Ten Commandments are actually laws in America. Under Shari'a all of the Ten Commandments are laws in addition to the rest of the Muslim civil and moral code.
