We have a test coming up later this week. The essential questions of our unit on monotheism will be addressed on that test, so it's never too early to start discussing them.
1. What do you think the appeal of monotheism was in the Roman Empire and later, across the Arab-Islamic Empire? Why did Christianity and Islam spread so rapidly, especially among people who were poor, powerless or oppressed?
2. How are Judaism, Christianity and Islam similar and in what ways are they different. Perhaps more importantly, are the differences greater than the similarities? What do you think are some ways in which the differences have led to tension between the three religions?

Judaism Christianity and Islam are alike in the ways that they all beileive in one God that is the ruler. They are all monotheistic. They also beilieve or have some form of a holly book. For the Jews it is the Torah, Christians it is the Bible and for the Islams it is the Qu'ran. all Three of these religions also beileive in a form of heaven and hell for the after life. They are different because they all beileive in a different form of this one overpowering rule, or form of God.

1. judaism and christianity spread rapidly among poor people, because in those religons you do not have to give sacrifies. You just have to obey god and worship god to be protected
2.All 3 religons are monotheistic. They also have holy books that have similar stories in them. Christians believe that Jesus is the son of god. Jews disagree and Muslims consider Jesus as one of the prophets like Muhammad.

1 god would be a lot more organized than more than 1 god, like that one would not get confused with each god and no gods would fight over what is right or wrong.
One would only have to worship that 1 god, which appealed to the poor. (Also, if you only have to worship 1 god, you could worship or contribute more to that god as opposed to worshiping several gods and providing smaller portions of things for them.)
The 1 god did not pay attention to wealth or status, so that appealed to the powerless.
It was easy to follow the rules of God, so it guaranteed them that they would go to heaven (assuming they did everything that needed to be done). Anyone could do these things - which appealed to all people as well.
(I believe it spread quickly because of preaching of the religion, trade, the Diaspora for the Jews, the common languages like Arabic, and some other cultural diffusion things.)

Judaism, Christianity, and Islam religions are similar because they all have a sacred ( holy) book that they beleive in. They also have the beleif in one God. However, In each individual religion their Gods take different forms which is a major difference..
In my best guess, the appeal of monotheism was that the people love the idea that they only had to concentrate on worshiping and praying to one GOD. This would help in TOTAL devotion which would benefit to a better life after death.
Christianity would have appealed w. the poor ,powerless, and oppressed because the same reason applied. With the little they had, it would have been enough for one GOD and so they did not have to worry about pleasing and giving sacrfices ( which they didnt have ) to many GODs

let's revise the question to make it clearer:
Clearly Jews, Christians and Muslims use "a book" and believe in "one god" but their connections run much deeper than that. How are those books similar? Do they believe in the same one God, or competing gods?
How do Jews, Christians and Muslims differ in their beliefs? How do each of them view the Prophets, from Abraham through Muhammad?
How about practicing their faith? What do they have in common in terms of their rituals and moral values? Are there any key rituals, practices or moral values on which they totally disagree?
As for the second question, I am asking you to look ahead and think about how these religions might come into conflict with each other as they grow.
One last thing that is totally unrelated to the question and that is about usernames. Nikki, you need to just change your name so that it is NikkiH (that is how everyone else set up theirs) and whoever kataang<3 is needs to fix his or her username.

Sorry Mr.Paulson, I didn't know what to write because I wasn't here. I think it's fixed now. And can anybody answer what the Arab-Islamic Empire includes? Like what countries?

1.The idea of monotheism might have appealed to people because they could make the god as they wanted him to be rather than the idea of gods who are like humans and animals. Also then they could see the god as more equal to them rather than a god who is much better than them. Islam and Christianity spread so rapidly because it was easier for poor people because there was not as many sacrifices and it was less complicated with just one ruler and one god that you could focus on.
